All colours of gem-quality corundum except for red (Ruby) are considered Sapphires. On the market, Blue Sapphires are usually simply called Sapphires, while Sapphires of other colours are commonly specified as Yellow Sapphires, Pink Sapphires, etc. They get their colours from trace elements such as iron, titanium, chromium, etc. Sapphire is classed trigonal and has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale.
