Blue Topaz is an aluminum hydroxyl-flourine silicate, the hardest of the silicate minerals. Topaz crystals can weigh hundreds of pounds! Common Topaz in its natural state is colorless, though trace impurities can make it pale blue or golden brown to yellow orange. It is classed orthorhombic and has a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale.
