Apophyllite is of hydrothermal origin. It is perhaps the whitest of all gems, some cut specimens are so devoid of colour they can appear almost silvery. Fluorapophyllite-(K) is the most commonly found type. It is classed tetragonal and has a hardness of 4.5-5 on the Mohs scale.
