Galena is a lead sulfide mineral, the world's primary ore of lead. Crystals are common and often form in cubes and octahedrons. It is one of the easiest ores to smelt. One of the most interesting uses of Galena was in early crystal radios! CAUTION: Galena is toxic to inhale or ingest, but you can handle it safely if there is no lead dust present (it is not broken). It is best to store your collection in a case. Galena is classed cubic and has a hardness of 2.5+ on the Mohs scale.
