Sah's parrot feather crafting is a labour of utmost love and devotion as a way to honour and give something tangible to the beautiful birds whos touch her heart deeply. She witnessed the crisis at the Coombs World Parrot Refuge in 2016, when Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary stepped in and led the largest animal rescue in Canadian history, relocating 584 parrots! Volunteering at an interim Nanaimo location gave her hands on experience cleaning, visiting, playing, feeding, singing to and loving up the birds. She has been making jewelry and fans with Greyhaven bird feathers ever since, raising funds for their ongoing care.
Feathers are received in large quantities with many species mixed together. It is a lot of work to wash (also treat with cedar oil) and sort prior to creating. High quality genuine stone beads and findings are sourced. Specific hooks can be requested for sensitive ears.
